A cruise journey on Li River 

It is an unforgettable experience to cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo. Li River originates in the Mao'er Mountains in Xing'an County and flows in the general southern direction through Guilin, Yangshuo and Pingle. In Pingle the Li River merges with two other streams, and continues south as the Gui River, which falls into the Xi Jiang, the western tributary of the Pearl River, in Wuzhou. Along the 100-kilometer stretch of the Li River, mountain peaks rise into the sky. It is one of China's most famous scenic areas, featured in many scroll paintings. Between spectacular limestone peaks tourists will see graceful bamboo groves, farmers tending rice paddies, and lumbering water buffaloes pulling carts or cooling off in the river. One may see fishermen gliding along on their narrow bamboo rafts, and if lucky enough, the chance to enjoy farmers fishing cormorants is there. Boats depart from various wharves, according to the height of the river at different times of the year.

Adventure on Yulong River in Yangshuo

Yulong River is a small tributary of the larger Li River starting in Northern Yangshuo County and runs for over 35 kilometres through small villages of the Yulong River Valley, including Putao, Litang, Chaolong, Yima and Gaotian town, before emptying into the Li River around the town of Pingle. It is a shallow river of around 5 metres maximum depth and an average of 25 metres across. As it is not located near any industrial areas, it is clean enough for swimming, though some brownish surface foam is visible in eddys, probably the result of phosphate runoff from local villages. Unlike the busy Li River, it has no motorized boat traffic and relies completely on bamboo rafts to ferry passengers downriver. When you sitting on the small bamboo raft, green peaks on both sides reflecting on the river, as if entering into a fresh and comfortable fairyland.

Take a photo with Guilin's Landmark, the Elephant Trunk Hill

Elephant Trunk Hill is located at the junction of Li River and Peach Blossom River. It is a hill that looks like a giant elephant drinking water with its trunk. Elephant Trunk Hill is 55 meters high and is symbol of the city of Guilin City. It got its name because it looks like an elephant drinking water. The hill is pierced with many caves and topped with a small pagoda. The round opening that would be under the elephant’s trunk is known as Water-Moon Cave because at night the reflection of the moon can be seen through the arch and it looks like it is under the water and floating on the surface of the water at the same time.

Visit Reed Flute Cave

Located 5 kilometers northwest of Guilin city, the Reed Flute Cave gets the name from the reeds used for making flutes and pipes that grow at its entrance. It is a limestone cave with a large number of stalactites, stalagmites, stalacto-stalagmites, rocky curtains, and cave corals, regarded as the largest and most impressive cave in Guilin. It is 240 meters long, and the length of the tour is about 550 meters offering a magic land of stone pillars, stone curtains, birds, plants and animals in fantastic shapes and colors.

Have a leisure walk inside Seven Star Park

Situated on the eastern side of the Li River, Seven Star Park is the biggest park inside Guilin city. Its takes its name from Seven Star Hill which consists of seven peaks which are said to resemble the star pattern of the Ursa Major (Big Dipper) constellation. Seven-Star Cave is an extensive limestone cave complex in Seven-Star Park, both of which are popular tourist attractions in the city of Guilin. The park and cave's name derive from the fact the main karst limestone peaks roughly resemble the stars of the Big Dipper constellation. The earliest exploration of Seven-Star Cave dates back to the Tang Dynasty, about 1,300 years ago. Seven-Star Cave has a year-round temperature of about 20 Celsius. The maximum ceiling height inside is 27 metres, and the maximum width is 49 metres. A concrete and stone tour path of approximately 1,000 metres runs through the cave between its entrance and exit points. Artificial lighting for walkways and displays is staged throughout, including colored accents, and various formations have names such as "A Natural Fresco" and "The Chessboard". During the Japanese invasion of China in World War II, Guilin residents took refuge in the cave complex.

Stroll on West Street, Yangshuo

The history of West Street in Yangshuo can be traced back to Sui Dynasty (590AD). The street was only 200 meters in length and less than 4 metes in width when Yangshuo County was found. West Street got its name for its location at the west of the county seat. When Yangshuo was just discovered by western travellers at the beginning of 1970s, they were attracted by its picturesque landscapes and unsophisticated folk custom. Stretching for less than 1 km now and paved with flagstones, West Street is an amazing global pedestrian with old traditional Chinese dwellings on both sides. Every year thousands of tourists from all over the world pay a visit to it, some of them even open their own shops here, which makes the street a big "English corner", "global village" and "foreigner street" in Guilin.

Hike the Fubo Hill 

ubo Hill is on the west bank of the Li River in the city center. Partially submerged in the river, it was named after General Fubo of the Tang Dynasty who built Mayuan Temple on the hill. Because of its location and height, Fubo Hill can tame the waves and stop the surging waters which then form whirlpools. It is 213 meters above the sea level and 62 meters above the ground level. There are almost 350 steps to reach the top of hill and then have a bird-eye view of Guilin city.

View the magnificent Longsheng Rice Terrace Fields

Longsheng Rice Terrace, built into the steep mountain range named "The Dragon's Backbone", this beautiful field is about 2 hours' driving distance from Guilin. The terraces look like ribbons as they wind from the foot to the top of the mountain. This ingenious construction makes best use of the scarce arable land and water resources in the mountainous area. There are about 66 square kilometers of terraced fields in the district. The terraces were firstly built in the Yuan Dynasty and completed in the Qing Dynasty by the Zhuang people. Zhuang and Yao minority villages dot the area and feature traditional unique architecture where no nails are used in construction. The different minority customs and dressing styles are especially interesting. Sedan chairs are available from the parking lot to the top of the mountain for customers who would like to see the great views but fail to climb.

Watch Impression Sanjie Liu Night Show

Impression · Sanjie Liu Night Show is performed in Yangshuo County, Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is China's first large-scale landscape performance, directed by Zhang Yimou. The performance stage takes the Li River and the twelve peaks led by Shutong Mountain as the background, which opens up the world's first live-action performance.

"Impression · Sanjie Liu" is generated from Guangxi fairy singer Liu Sanjie's legend, but is not limited to the story of one person, but to use traditional Chinese painting techniques into true mountain and water, combining the unique rhythm and facet of minority songs off the coast of the Lijiang River, the natural scenery, fishermen villagers lifestyle, ethnic customs and so on.

There is no continuous story line or accurate lyric translation in the performance. Instead, Liu Sanjie is taken as the lead, then through freehand pictures and familiar folk songs, the folk customs of Zhuang, Yao, Miao, Dong and other ethnic minorities in Guangxi as well as a hundred other cultures around the Li River are represented.
