Xining Adventure
Xining, located on the eastern edge of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the upper reaches of Huangshui River, is the capital city of Qinghai Province, northwestern China. It is the local centre of politics, economics, culture, education, technology, transportation and communication. With an average altitude of over 2,200 meters, Xining covers an area of 7,373 square kilometers and has a population of 2.2 million. As a typical city of migrants, Xining possesses several peoples and religions co-existing harmoniously. Buddhism, Islam, Christianity and Catholicism, Taoism as well as Tibetan Buddhism have the most significant influence. Xining is on the passage of the Silk Road and the Tang-Tibet Ancient Road. It has been a military stronghold and transportation hub since ancient China. So it was called "the throat of Qinghai and Tibet". Until now, it is still the only road by which to enter the hinterland of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
